Last Monday, the GSSE´s mascot, Blossi, visited Njarðvíkurskóli, the school that won the name-competition for the name of the mascot, the NOC held in January. The school is located in Njarðvík, a town near the airport in Keflavík. One of the class in the school, 5.H.G., sent in the winning name, Blossi.

All classes in the country, with kids aged 9-12 years, could participate. Each class could submit one name. 140 names were sent in. The creativity of the students was great and very entertaining. Five-member committee was appointed to work on the proposals submitted and choose a name. The best name, Blossi, was announced on February 21st, when 100 days remained until the GSSE´s opening ceremony. Two classes sent in the winning name, 6th grade in Vesturbæjarskóli and 5.H.G. in Njarðvíkurskóli. The mascot pulled out the name Blossi from Njarðvíkurskóli.

On Monday, all students in 5.H.G. in Njarðvíkurskóli received a little Blossi mascot from the NOC´s Secretary General Líney Rut Halldórsdóttir and the mascot. The school also received a computer equipment from Advania, one of the Golden sponsors of the games.  Blossi met most of the school´s students this day. It is fair to say that the visit was a success.

The National Olympic and Sports Association, thanks the students and teachers of the schools involved for the participation in the name-competition.
