Volleyball at Laugardalslaug Aquatic Center

The Beach Volleyball Competition starts in a few minutes at the new beach volleyball pitch in Laugardalslaug Aquatic Center. It  was specially made for GSSE 2015.

This is the sixth time that Beach Volleyball is one of the competing sports at GSSE. Iceland first sent a men´s team to Andorra in 2005, Brynjar J. Pétursson and Einar Sigurdsson. They are both competing at these Games. Iceland first sent women´s team to Monaco in 2007, Heiðbjört Gylfadóttir and Þórey Haraldsdóttir.
 
Andorra has been the most successful in the men’s division, a total of five awards (one Gold and four Bronze). Luxembourg has won the most awards in the women’s division also a total of five (one Gold, two Silver, two Bronze). Iceland won the Bronze in women's division in Monaco 2007.
 
Liechtenstein men have won the Gold twice, both in 2005 and 2013. The winners from 2013 have arrived to the country to try to repeat the good results. Most of the Gold in the women's division have gone to Cyprus or three times in 2009, 2011 and 2013.
