Historic results for Iceland´s girls
It was a great day at the Beach Volleyball competition today. Good weather, with two digit heat numbers, calm wind and little sun. A lot of spectators came to visit the Beach Volleyball stadium for the early games as schools in the area came for a visit, picked teams to support and experience the sport.
Iceland´s Elísabet Einarsdóttir and Berglind Jónsdóttir managed to get historic results in the afternoon when they beat Cyprus, Mariota Angelopoulou and Zoi Konstantopoulou, champions of three last GSSE games, 2-0. This is the first time Iceland beats Cyprus in Beach Volleyball. The Icelandic girls are now in the lead for the GSSE title in the womens competition with 4 points, the same as Monaco´s Caroline Revel and Magali Muratore, who won Luxemburg´s Anne Grethen and Rebekka Klerf 2-0 today.
For Group A of the Mens competition, Luxemburg won Monaco 2-0 like Liechtenstein did yesterday. Liechtenstein and Luxemburg will play for the top seat of group A tomorrow at 12:00 GMT.
For group B, Andorra (Genildo Cassiano, Da Silva Prada) beat San Marino (Lorernzo Benvenuti and Ivo Mattia) 2-0 and Cyprus (Dimitris Apostolou and Vladimir Knezevic) beat Iceland (Einars Sigurðsson og Orri Þór Jónsson) 2-0 as well.
Iceland and San Marino will therefore compete for the 3rd place in group B tomorrow.
